Poet and author, including the books 'The Man Who Loved Birds' (2016), 'Crossing the River' (1991), 'Scissors, Paper, Rock' (1994), 'Geography of the Heart: A Memoir' (1996, Lambda Literary Award), 'Keeping Faith: A Skeptic's Journey' (2004, Lambda Literary Award), and his collection of essays 'Everywhere Home: A Life in Essays' (2017). Regular contributor to Harper's magazine. Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Arizona, having taught at numerous other universities.
