Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords. Formerly Minister for Climate Change in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and minister in the Northern Ireland Office. Member of European Parliament (2014-2017). Member of LGBTory. Vice-Chair of the LGBTI Rights Intergroup. Former head of the Scottish Parliament’s European Office in Brussels, responsible for relations between the Holyrood Parliament and the EU institutions. Former European Advisor to the Parliament and Clerk to the European & External Relations Committee. Began with public affairs positions in Scotland, including Secretary of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation and Head of Policy & Communications with the Scottish Refugee Council; researcher with BP focusing upon Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Republics.
