Description

Sociologist, noted for his numerous research studies on gay behaviour. Former Assistant Professor of sociology at Southern Illinois University (1968-1970), Associate Professor of sociology at the School of Criminal Justice, State University of New York (1970-72), and Professor of sociology at Pitzer College (1972-1980). Avowed his gay identity, and formed the Sociologist's Gay Caucus. Author of the books 'Tearoom Trade' (1970) and 'Out of the closets; the sociology of homosexual liberation' (1972). Subject of the biography 'Laud Humphreys: Prophet of Homosexuality and Sociology' (2004).
