Controversial Episcopalian priest, participating in peace movement and activism. Acknowledged his homosexuality (1977), being the first prominent priest to do so. Author of many books, notably 'Gay Priest' (1986). First president of the Television Producers Association before joining the priesthood in 1951. Anti-war activist. LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS activist.
