Historian, founder of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at City University of New York. Award winning scholar and writer. Professor of History Emeritus at the Graduate School of the City University of New York and Lehman College. Founder and keynote speaker of the Gay Academic Union (1973). Notable books include 'The Worlds of Lincoln Kirstein' (2007), 'Hold Tight Gently: Michael Callen, Essex Hemphill, and the Battlefield of AIDS' (2015, Lambda Literary Award), and 'Hidden from History: Reclaiming the Gay and Lesbian Past' (two Lambda Literary Awards).
