Description

Art Historian and Curator. Director of the British Museum since 2024. Former Director of the National Portrait Gallery (2015-2023) where he oversaw a major renovation. Former Curator at Tate Modern (2007-2013) and Curator of Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum (2013-2015). Appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (2024). Partner is art dealer Mattias Vendelmans.
