Description

Co-founder (with Alicia Garza) of Black Lives Matter. Founder and a board member of Los Angeles based organization 'Dignity and Power Now', and the director for truth and reinvestment at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. Active in many other social justice organizations including Black Organizing for Leadership and Dignity. Performance artist and theatre director. Named a NAACP History Maker (2015) and a Civil Rights Leader for the 21st Century by the Los Angeles Times (2015). Recipient of numerous awards and honours for her work.
