Description

Art dealer, interior designer, and dilettante. Head of the Electoral House of Hesse from 1940 to 1980. Great-grandson of Queen Victoria, and third cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. President of the Prussian Province of Hesse-Nassau. His cousin, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was named after him. The family name Hesse was abandoned and replaced with Mountbatten. Acquaintance of Adolf Hitler, he was charged with murder after World War II and spent several years in prison. Bisexual, having had a noted affair with Siegfried Sassoon.
