Description

Classical and modern Ballet dancer and choreographer. Noted for transforming the role of the male dancer from simply a support role to one centre stage in the performance. Noted for his defection from Russia to the west. Former partner of choreographer and dancer Erik Bruhn. Member of the Royal Ballet, former Director of the Paris Opera Ballet, and performed many television productions. Died of AIDS.
