Description

Television, stage and film actor. Notable for his television comedy shows The Stanley Baxter Show (1963-1971), Baxter On..., Time For Baxter, The Stanley Baxter Picture Show (1972-1975), and The Stanley Baxter Series (1981). Films include 'Geordie' (1955), 'Very Important Person' (1961), 'The Fast Lady' (1962), 'Crooks Anonymous' (1962) and 'Father Came Too! (1963). Known for his career as a pantomime actor. Author of numerous travel books on the city of Glasgow. Came out as gay in his autobiography 'The Real Stanley Baxter' (2020). Received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards (1997).
