Description
One of the group of first female, and LGBTQ, individuals elected to Finland's parliament in 1906 (the first year women were allowed to run, and serving until 1917) along with Hilda Maria Kakikoski. Founder and chair of the feminist organization Unioni (1892). Teacher and founder of her own Finnish co-educational school: The Helsinki New Co-Educational School. Founded the Sivistystä kodeille yhdistys (an association for taking education into the home) in 1899. In 1900 the association was renamed The Martha Organization, and she served until 1938. The goal was to educate the entire nation through the education of its women.
