Description
Philosopher. Considered the first to popularize the essay as a form of commentary and analysis, incorporating observation, anecdote, and autobiography with critical insight. Known for his collection of work 'Essais' (1580). Introduced the notion of 'skepticism'. Mayor of Bordeaux (1581-1585). Had a four year relationship with Etienne de La Boetie. Also known as Michel Eyquem de Montaigne.
