Description
Abstract Expressionist/Pop Painter and Sculptor. Notable for his painting of flags. A Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1984. In 1990, awarded the National Medal of Arts. On February 15, 2011 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Had a relationship with Robert Rauschenberg, among others.
