Description
Musician, singer, and songwriter of gospel, soul, rock, and Rhythm & Blues. Piano player as both a solo artist, and backing other musicians including Little Richard. Notable songs include That's the Way God Planned It, Outa-Space (Grammy Award, 1973), Will It Go Round in Circles, Space Race, Nothing from Nothing, and With You I'm Born Again. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Musical Excellence Award category in 2021. Won a second Grammy Award for Album of the Year for his participation in the album The Concert For Bangla Desh (1973). Came out as gay just before his death.
