Description
Queen of Sweden (1633-1654), acceding to the throne at the age of six. Cross dresser, never married. Had relationships with several women, but notable relationship was with Ebba Sparre whom she called 'la belle comtesse'. Caused a sensation when she abdicated her throne, converted to Roman Catholicism and exiled herself to Rome. Subsequently attempted to seize Naples but failed. Notable for her strong support of the Arts, which is regarded as her principal legacy. Generally viewed as an individual of valuable, though wasted, talent and prospect.
