Star chef and cookbook author. Credited for creating a style of food called California Cuisine. Famed restaurants that he worked in or owned include Chez Panisse in Berkeley (1972-1978), Stars in San Francisco (1984-1999), and Tavern on the Green in New York City (2014). Notable cookbooks include 'New American Classics' (1986, James Beard Award) and 'Jeremiah Tower Cooks: 250 Recipes from an American Master (2002). Received a James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef of the Year (1996). Boyfriend was his publicist Arthur Gallego.
