Description
Founding prelate of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement, a liberal protestant denomination that is particularly welcoming of lesbian, gay and bisexual African Americans. Formerly a Motown and disco singer and openly gay gospel singer, noted particularly for his version of the early gay liberation song 'I Was Born This Way', and author of a subsequent book with the same title. Worked with the Jackie Robinson Youth Council. Established the Minority AIDS Council in Los Angeles. LGBTQ and AIDS activist.
