Description
Member of the Royal Family and youngest son of King George V and Queen Mary. Born George Edward Alexander Edmund. Member of the Royal Air Force, promoted to the ranks of rear admiral (RA) in the Royal Navy (RN), major general (MG) in the British Army and air vice-marshal (AVM) in the Royal Air Force (RAF). Spent eight years on active duty in the Royal Navy serving on the dreadnought battleship HMS Iron Duke and the Nelson-class battleship HMS Nelson. After retiring from the navy in 1929, he held posts at the Foreign Office and the Home Office, becoming the first member of the British Royal Family to work as a civil servant. At the start of World War II, he returned to active military service and served in the Intelligence Division of the Admiralty. In 1940, he transferred to the Royal Air Force and assumed the post of Staff Officer at RAF Training Command. Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Fusiliers. Personal aide-de-camp to his eldest brother, King Edward VIII. Noted for his flamboyant affairs with socialites and celebrities, both men and women. Though married, he had relationships with Anthony Blunt, Sir Noel Coward, Cecil Roberts, and more. Killed in a military air crash. Bisexual.
