Description

World's first openly transsexual mayor (Carterton, 1995-2000), as well as the world's first openly transsexual Member of Parliament (2000-2005) for the Labour Party. Born George Bertrand. Former radio host and cabaret singer. LGBTQ activist. Awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit (2020) for her services to the LGBTQ community.
