Ambassador to UNESCO since 2016. Caused a diplomatic row with the Vatican when he was appointed as French Ambassador to the Vatican in 2015 - the posting was dropped in 2016. Formerly France's Chief of Protocol since 2001 and Deputy Chief of Protocol (1996-2001), and envoy for the environment. Secretary General of the French Presidency of the G20-G8.
