Description
Native Canadian writer of many books which explore Native American identity, gay and lesbian identity, and working-class struggles. Her collection A Gathering of Spirit (1988) was the first anthology of Native American's women writing edited by another Native American woman. Received awards from the Michigan Council For the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, and served as a lecturer at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto. Recipient of the Canada Council Award in Creative Writing (1992).
