Description
One of the Kenya's most notable writers and journalists. Won the Caine Prize (2002) for his short story 'Discovering Home'. He is the founding editor of Kwani, the first literary magazine in East Africa. Noted for his book 'One Day I Will Write About This Place' (2011), made internationally famous by Oprah Winfrey. Came out as gay in a chapter of his memoirs, 'One Day I Will Write About This Place', in 2013 in response to growing homophobic legislation and attitudes in Africa. HIV positive.
