Description

King of England until deposed, 1307-1327. Had a close relationship with Piers Gaveston which led to tension and discontent in the Royal circle. After Gaveston was exiled by a group of barons, King Edward revoked his previous assent to political reform and returned Gaveston to England. In retaliation, a group had Gaveston executed, and this lead to the eventual defeat of Edward II in various armed upheavals. He returned to power, but opposition continued, and he eventually was forced to transfer the crown to his son before his death.
