Description
Archeologist, anthropologist, geologist and adventurer. Founder of the field of study known as Paleontology and Paleobiology. Noted as the first scientist to investigate the social behaviour of the dinosaurs, and to contemplate the complete physical attributes of a dinosaur including its flesh composition. Discovered and named several species in his lifetime, including identifying 25 genera of reptiles and five dinosaurs. Completed the first geological map of northern Albania. Acted as a spy for Austria-Hungary in 1912 and during the First World War, a conflict out of which emerged Albania as a separate country. Head of the Hungarian Geological Institute in 1925. Author of the book 'Traveler, Scholar, Political Adventurer: A Transylvanian Baron at the Birth of Albanian Independence' published posthumously in 2001. Long time partner was Bajazid Elmaz Doda. Full name is Baron Franz Nopcsa von Felso-Szilvas.
