Description
Feminist, suffragette, and Irish Republican nationalist. Founder and Editor of Bean na hÉireann, a monthly woman’s paper advocating militancy, separatism and feminism (1908). General secretary of the Irish Women Workers’ Union (1915) and active member of the Irish Citizen Army (ICA). Participated in the Easter Rising (1916). Second female president of the Irish Trade Union Congress (1937). Notable for her early work in the schools meal activism program of the Daughters of Ireland.
