Description
Individual who, with his partner Michael McConnell, are the first known LGBTQ couple to apply for a marriage license in the United States (1970), though they lost their case in the Supreme Court. However, they attempted again in another county and were successful (1971), though state and federal governments did not recognize it. Co-author of the book 'The Wedding Heard Round the World: America's First Gay Marriage' (2015) about their experience.
