Film critic, considered one of the most influential in Canada during his time. Won several National Newspaper Awards for his work (1975, 1981). Author of the book 'Great Scott! The Best of Jay Scott's Movie Reviews' (1994). Annual award in his honour for emerging film talent is given by the Toronto Film Critics Association. Born Jeffery Scott Beaven. Died of AIDS.
