Description

Novelist and poet, considered to be one of the foremost figures in Dutch literature. In 1923, he was awarded the Tollensprijs (Tollens prize). Notable works include 'Mountain of Light' and 'Eline Vere' (1889). Works often contain studies in personal sexuality that was often considered decadent at the time. Married, though known as a homosexual. A museum dedicated to his life is situated in the Haag.
