Description

Gay Muslim Imam who founded a gay-friendly mosque and support group 'Homosexual Muslims in France' (HM2F). Considered the first French Muslim to marry a same-sex partner. AIDS activist. Published his doctoral thesis on Islam and homosexuality 'Homosexuality, Transidentity, and Islam: A Study of Scripture Confronting the Politics of Gender and Sexuality' (2019). Author of the book 'The Koran and the Flesh' (Le Coran et la chair, 2012). In 2019, he opened the Calem Institute in Marseille, which includes a prayer room and aims to raise awareness of progressive values (such as LGBT rights and feminism) within the Muslim world.
