Description

Multimedia artist. Member of avante-garde collective the Mainstreeters, and known for merging queer and Chinese-Canadian cultural perspectives in his work. Pieces he’s produced include a series of anti-racism TV Public Service Announcements titled' Refugee Class of 2000', and the 1996 documentary 'Blending Milk and Water: Sex in the New World' that plays off the genre of the AIDS educational video by asking a diverse cast of people to offer their candid views on sex. He drew controversy in 1984 with his video installation project 'Confused: Sexual Views'. Co-founding member of On The Cutting Edge Productions Society. Awarded the Bell Canada Award in Video Art (1992), and a Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts (2005). Inaugural winner of the Trailblazer Expressions Award (2003).
