Description
Television and classic theatre actor and music historian. Has received numerous awards for his acting, including Laurence Olivier Awards. Has appeared in stage productions of Persuasion (1995), The Young Visitors (2003), Dunkirk (2004), and The Deep Blue Sea (2011). Has appeared in the television shows A Dance to the Music of Time, The Hollow Crown, Into the Woods, Penny Dreadful, and The Death of Stalin. Professor of Contemporary Theatre at Oxford University since 2014. Received a Knighthood in 2019.
