Portraiture, war artist, creator of the Dobell Foundation. Notable portraits include 'Joshua Smith' (1943) and 'Margaret Olley' (1948), and his series of Time Magazine cover portraits from 1960-1963. Awarded an Order of the British Empire in 1965 and knighted in 1966.
