Description
Ballet dancer with Ballet Russes where he became a Principal Dancer in 1925, and choreographer. Became artistic director of Paris Opera Ballet on several occasions, including 1930-1944 and 1947-1958, a role by which he is considered to have given re-birth to ballet to the country. Writer and author of his memoir 'Les Mémoires d'Icare' (1993) and his biography of the legendary ballet impressario [[Sergei Diaghilev] titled 'Serge Diaghilev, His Life, His Work, His Legend: An Intimate Biography' (1940). Considered one of the greatest ballet dancers of the 20th century. The Serge Lifar Foundation was created in his memory in 1989.
