Description
Ballet dancer with Ballet Russes where he became a Principal Dancer in 1925, and choreographer. Became artistic director of Paris Opera Ballet on several occasions, including 1930-1944 and 1947-1958, a role by which he is considered to have given re-birth to ballet to the country. Writer and author of his memoir 'Les Mémoires d'Icare' (1993) and his biography of the legendary ballet impressario Sergey Diaghilev titled 'Serge Diaghilev, His Life, His Work, His Legend: An Intimate Biography' (1940). Considered one of the greatest ballet dancers of the 20th century. The Serge Lifar Foundation was created in his memory in 1989.
